BARBARO, Antonino
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we mourn the passing of Antonino “Nino” Barbaro on March 20, 2025, at the age of 92 in Barrie, Ontario.
Nino was born in Santa Lucia Del Mela, a small town in Sicily, on March 23, 1932. At the age of 14, after losing his father, he started working to support his mother and siblings. He became a pastry chef, played in bands, and developed his cooking skills. In 1963, he moved to Canada to create a life for his future wife and family.
In 1973, Nino and his wife, Rosa, opened Nino’s Italian Restaurant on Blake Street in Barrie. For over 40 years, the restaurant's food and Nino’s personality attracted many who came for a great meal and left as friends.
Nino leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Rosa, sons Frank (Laura) and Luigi, grandchildren (in order of age) Nino, Rosalia, Santana, Luca, Brando, Matteo, Alessio, Fabio, Jordyn, and Nora Rose, great-grandchildren Romeo and Raniya, sisters Maria, Giuseppina, Fortunata (Gregorio), and brother Franco. He will be dearly missed by March, Tarra, and Vena.
Visitations will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 2-4 PM and from 7-9PM. Funeral will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 11:30 AM in the Steckley-Gooderham chapel, with interment and reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please support the Alzheimer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The family would also like to say a very special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and staff at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre for taking such good care of Nino in his final days.
