Rowsell, Arthur Porter – Peacefully, at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie on Sunday, October 20, 2013 in his 67th year. Predeceased by his parents Lydia and William Rowsell of Barrie. Cherished brother and best friend to Dyann MacAuley (nee Rowsell) and her husband Frank of Oro Station, brother to Robert (Bob) and his wife Denise of Barrie and Bruce of Windsor. Predeceased by his brother David and sister Stella. Loved dearly by his nephew Vincent and his wife Karen and daughter Sydney of Oro Station, his nephew Adam and his wife Samantha and son Stone of Barrie, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Proud “dad” to his beloved Cairn Terriers, Joey and Tweeny. Arthur will also be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues.
A long-standing and admired member of the film industry, Arthur was a quiet and unassuming man whose passion in life was costume design and fashion. Having worked on more than 40 films and television shows in his long career as a costumer, Arthur was often happiest watching his beautiful costumes come to life on the people he was dressing. Modestly, he very rarely spoke of the magnitude of his career, but rather, was content just to be with those who loved him and walking his beloved dogs in Withrow Park every day.
Arthur was a kind and generous man to all that had the pleasure of knowing him. He had a quick and biting wit that was often admired and respected by both family and friends, yet was still a gentle touch to strangers and those in need. Anyone that knew Arthur will never forget what an amazing, generous soul he had and how fortunate one was to call him a friend.
While Arthur will be sorely missed by all his family and friends, we take solace in knowing that while he has taken his final curtain call in this life, he is now dressing up those he is with just a little bit fancier. “Time to go play dress up, Dyann…”
A private, family celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 24th.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Toronto Humane Society. Messages of condolence are welcome at http://www.steckleygooderham.com/
