BERNIER, Barbara

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara (nee Brawley) Bernier in her 76th year, surrounded by her family, at the Royal Victoria Health Centre in Barrie on Sunday, November 23, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Gerald Bernier. Dearly missed by her children Stephanie (Clare) Maher, Dr. Christopher Bernier, Michael (Kerry) Bernier and Michelle (Jeff) Steers. Proud grandma of Brawley, Jared and Julia Bernier, William and Joshua Maher, Amara, Emma and Owen Bernier, Katelyn and Patrick Steers. Survived by her sister Joan (Jack) McGinnis, brothers Donald (Jean), Jim (Shirley), and Michael (Michelle) Brawley, sister-in-laws Loretta O'Connor and Joyce Bernier. Treasured Aunt and loyal friend.
Barb was an extraordinary woman who spent her younger years as an administrative assistant at Chrysler Corporation, and the Canadian Pacific Railway. Barbara was very involved at St. James the Great Church and also invested her time as Parish secretary.
Possessing a strong faith, Barb spent several years as an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She treasured this time and developed life-long friendships. Barb made everyone in her presence feel special and was lovingly proud of each of her children and ten grandchildren.
Family and friends may be received at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Road, Barrie, on Thursday, November 27, 2014 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 13 Baldwin Lane, Barrie on Friday, November 28 at 11am. Reception to follow. Cremation. If desired, donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation are greatly appreciated by the family. The family is grateful for the excellent care at Royal Victoria Health Centre, Surgical 1&2 Intensive Care Unit, Barrie. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com.
