Mrs. Barbara June VanSickle (nee Allen)
(Jan. 28, 1932 — Aug. 21, 2016)

Died peacefully at home on Aug. 21 with her daughter Kim by her side. Barb is survived by her three children, Rick (Maureen), Kim and Mark, who all cherished their mother, as well as her eight beautiful grandchildren and one great-grandson. Barb is predeceased by her loving husband, Roy.
Barb was the rock in the VanSickle family. When there was turmoil, she was the calm one, the one we all went to for comfort and reassurance. Mom married the love of her life, Roy, in 1955, after a whirlwind courtship in Hamilton, Ont. Their life would take them to Ancaster and later Applewood Acres, Etobicoke and finally Barrie. Their life was full of adventure and living life to the fullest. Exotic trips, golf adventures (she got her first hole-in-one at 53 years old at the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club) and jet-setting around the world. But it was her love of family that will be remembered most, always finding time to visit Kim, Mark, Rick and their families in Vancouver (or Mexico) or St. Catharines and earlier, visits to the Yukon where all three kids spent time. Barb devoted her life to her family and doted on her husband Roy during his long illness before he passed away in 2011. She was quick to volunteer for various organizations throughout her life and was active in the Tollendale Village community right up until the time of her passing.
She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her, especially her family, including her brother Lawrence Allen (Shirley) and sister-in-law Betty Calquoun and their families.
A casual celebration of Barb’s life for friends and family will be held at Tollendale Village (274 Hurst Dr. in the dining room) in Barrie on Sunday, Aug. 28.
