WINCHESTER, Barbara

July 15, 1934 - February 27, 2025

Barbara Winchester, daughter of the late William and Elsie Baxter, passed away surrounded by family at the Royal Victoria Hospital Barrie, on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of the late Reginald Winchester. Much loved mother of Roger (Sharon) and Brenda (Mike). Cherished Nan to Stephanie (Jonathan), Jennifer and Heather (Sean) and to five great-grandchildren, Jestin, Harper, Samuel, Eleanor and Charlotte. Predeceased by her sisters Jean, Dorothy, Grace and Shirley and brother Jack.

After retiring from Black and Decker (formerly CGE), Barrie, in 1985, she jumped at the chance to provide daycare for her grandchildren - spoiling them with her wonderful homemade cookies and many other treats. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was delighted when they gave her five beautiful great-grandchildren.

Barbara loved her home and enjoyed it for nearly 63 years - tending to the beautiful gardens that would catch the eye of neighbours and people passing by. Following the sale of her home she enjoyed more than 2 years at the Livita Barrington Retirement Home, Barrie. The wonderful team supported her as long as they could until failing health required more assistance which was provided by Serenity Retirement Residence. The family will be eternally grateful for the wonderful care she received at both homes. She was so lucky to be surrounded by so much love.

Special thanks to the emergency department staff and the Cancer-Palliative team at the Royal Victoria Hospital for their care and family support during the last days of her life.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Private internment at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Innisfil, will be held at a later date.

If desired, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the RVH Foundation and are greatly appreciated by the family.
