Straughan, Benson Robert James
Beloved husband of Catherine Straughan, his devoted wife of 62 years. Loving father of Stephen (Shelagh) Straughan and Heather (Rob) Oliver. Caring grandpa of Hunter, Taylor, Reese and Bronwynn. Born in Goderich, Ontario and the eldest of eight boys, Ben was a long serving chief administrative officer of the City of Barrie. He was a proud member of Kinsmen, Kempenfelt Lodge, Barrie Curing Club and Shanty Bay Golf Club. Ben will be fondly remembered by his friends on Go Home Lake. Scottish to the core, his family affectionately remember his fondness for straightening nails and collecting wood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Family & friends will be received at the Steckley Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie (705-721-9921) from 1:00 p.m. until time of Service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
