Ben Vandehoek went to be with his Lord and Saviour peacefully at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of Henia. He was the loving father of Marianne (Dan) Donnelly, Wendy (Rick) Bakker and Arlene Heale., proud grandfather of Arin, Michael (Laura), Nathan (Jessie), Ryan (Laura), Amy (Ian), Alison (Alan), Billy and the late Tamara, great-grandfather of Chloe, Grace, Oliver, Benjamin and River and also the step-father of Arie (Michelle), Jack and Fay (Dean).  He was also dear brother of Wichertje (Egbert) and Jannie (Jaap), predeceased by his brothers Willem (Aly), Hendrik Jan, Frederik and sisters Fennigje and Fennie and Aldy (Roel), and brother-in-law of Henny.  Ben will be missed by extended family members and dear friends.

Ben was born in The Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with a friend at the age of 18. He settled in Barrie after marrying Gloria Span and went on to father three beautiful daughters.  Ben was a hard-working skilled carpenter and contractor. Throughout his working years, he also used his gifts to donate his time and skills to special building projects, especially to his church.  He made it clear he loved Canada and had a strong appreciation of nature and enjoyed traveling.  In his retirement Ben became an avid gardener, wood carver, lover of music and became a self-taught guitar player who went on to write songs that shared his story.  He lived a full life – “a life of no regrets.”
