Betty Bernatt (Birutė Bartininkaityte) passed peacefully at the Leacock Care Centre in Orillia on May 25th, 2022 at the age of 98 years. She is predeceased by her beloved son, Anthony Bernatt and her parents, Augustinas and Vanda Bartninkaitis.

Betty was born in 1924 in Kaunas, Lithuania and was the only child of Augustinas (businessman) and Vanda (teacher). There she attended the Catholic "Sun Girls" Gymnasium. The outbreak of World War II changed their family history and forced them to leave their beloved homeland.  The family found themselves in a Displaced Persons camp in Hamburg, Germany, where she was among the first students to attend the famed Baltic University, started by fellow refugees in 1946. With the opportunity to leave Germany, she emigrated with her parents to Toronto, Canada. Betty never lost her devotion to her beloved Lithuanian roots and her Catholic faith. Betty will be sadly missed by her surviving Lithuania relatives, Violeta, Egle and Kristina.

A private Catholic graveside service was held at the St. John’s Lithuanian Cemetery, Mississauga, where she was laid to rest alongside her beloved son and her parents. Online condolences and memories may be left via www.steckleygooderham.com
