Popp, Philip George Burton (Burt), Retired President DeVilbiss (Canada)
September 1, 1927 – February 7, 2015

It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Burt in his 88th year, at Roberta Long Term Care, Essa Road, Barrie. Survived by his loving wife Barbara of 61 years; predeceased by his parents Philip and Elizabeth Popp; devoted father of Laurie McLeod (Rod) and Debbie Burke (Ed). Burt was born in Sandwich, Ontario, the youngest of five deceased siblings. Burt was much loved and respected by his grandchildren Amy Johnson (Bruce), Bailey Burke and Jacob Burke; Alex McLeod and Jessica McLeod; and his great grandchildren Elle Johnson and Cole Johnson. Burt will also be fondly remembered by his extended family.

Burt held the respect of the employees at DeVilbiss due to his quiet leadership and strength of character, and in later years he was instrumental in the initial growth of TFCN, now known as The Look Company. A Barrie resident for the past 61 years, Burt was a great supporter of this community and was acknowledged with a Citizen of the Year Award for 1983 – 1984. In more recent years Burt’s focus became the ongoing accomplishments of his five adult grandchildren who were a great source of interest and pride to him.

Barb and family are profoundly grateful for the prayers, love and support given to them throughout the years. We would like to give special mention to the residents of Water View Condo (Toronto Street), Home Care (C.C.A.C.), Royal Victoria Hospital, Bracebridge Hospital (Slow Stream Therapy), Roberta Care Nursing Home (Area 2), with notable mention to Dr. Howard, the Nursing and Personal Support Workers for their constant concern and care. Special thanks to Father David Warren and the St. George’s family, and to Paul Burke who was a consistent support to Burt and Barbara during Burt’s stay in Roberta Place.

Friends may call at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday February 12th from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church,
9 Granville St. at Yonge St., Barrie on Friday February 13th at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church or to the Rotary Club of Barrie Charitable Foundation in Burt’s honour. Words of condolence may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com.
