Read, Catherine Easton (MacKinnon), peacefully at Hospice Simcoe on Monday July 16th, 2012. Catherine is survived by husband of 60 years, Gordon, daughter Elspeth, son in law Terry Lewis, daughter Diana Read-Miedema, grandchildren Joseph (and Christianne), Esther (and Max Lysakovsky) and James. Also survived by sister Anne and Ian Jeffrey, their children Janet, Allen, George and Laurie and their spouses and children.
Catherine was one of the children evacuated from Scotland during WW2. She went on to be one of the pioneer workers in Special Education and was a strong advocate for the rights of all children who didn't learn the same way as most other children. Catherine, with Gordon, led Church youth groups, was involved in choirs, loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved the great views we are so lucky to have in Canada.
A memorial service is being held in Barrie at 2pm, July 21st, 2012, and will be followed at 3pm. by a visitation with light refreshments including a chocolate fountain. This will be at Roberta Place Retirement Lodge at 489 Essa Road in Barrie, Ontario in the Simcoe Room on the 4th floor.
