FIELDING, Claire (nee Villeneuve)

Claire, wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt, and friend.

You passed away peacefully on February 14th, 2025, just after your 93rd birthday…a life well lived.  You grew up in Cornwall and after meeting and marrying your husband of 63 years (predeceased by Barry) your love for each other was rekindled on Valentine’s Day.

You both moved to Toronto and started a family, a family that has grown incredibly in size.  Devoted mother of Brian (Paula), Cheryl McDonald (Don), Michael, and Leanne White (Dave).  Loving grandmother of Christopher (Letitia), Carolyn, Daniel, Jeannette, Ryan, Jessica, Allison (John), and Andrew.  Great grandmother of Lily, Mia, Duncan and Mckenna.

Claire was predeceased by her brothers, Father Tom and Ernie, sisters Frances and Madeleine and is survived by sisters Theresa, Elaine, Kathleen and Adele.

Family life started with several moves back and forth between Toronto and Montreal including 4 kids in tow…then dad started a business, and mom became the head of the home, and all things children related like many special mom’s of that generation.

You loved celebrations (with your favourite glass of wine in hand

).  Birthdays with your favourite cake, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Weddings, Baptisms etc., there was never a shortage of family gatherings or amazing home cooking…and of course those party hats.

Her favourite hobbies were gardening, baking, knitting, home decorating, dressing up for special occasions, and instilling (not really a hobby) in her children to pursue the careers and life of their choice, and always extremely proud of everyone.

She loved her family and her many furry friends (too many to mention, but she knew them all by name).  She taught us how to live life to the fullest, traveling, cruising, wintering in Florida with family and eventually creating the cottage as a 2nd home.  Everyone was made to feel welcome.  As well as the importance of an education.

She also shared her values with her children.  She was honest…sometimes too honest but with good intentions, generous, treated everyone with respect, but most of all the value of being a family.  She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always wanting to know how everyone was doing, how work was going, and our families.

Claire will be missed dearly by all her friends and family.  A small Private Remembrance is being held in Barrie to be followed by a Ceremony and Celebration of Life in Cornwall, to be scheduled later.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Claire’s memory to the Alzheimer Society or Hospice Simcoe, and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
