With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of Cynthia Wright on September 15th, 2024 at the age of 60. Loving wife, devoted mother, caring sister, aunt, teacher and friend. After a 10-year battle with cancer she passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe surrounded by her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband John of nearly 35 years, her daughters Emily and Gillian, her sister Marilyn, her brother Kurt, her mother Laurette, and her extended family. She was predeceased by her father Robert. She will be deeply missed by friends and colleagues.

Cynthia was a teacher for 30 years and, before teaching, was a member of the RCMP. She taught in Alberta, the Yukon, and Ontario. Cynthia loved art, music, and motorcycles (specifically Harley’s), but most of all she loved her family. Whether it was a casual lunch, taking her children to events, or road trips to Montreal, Cynthia always had her family foremost in her mind. She had a great sense of humour and always enjoyed a good time with friends and family.

In 2014 Cynthia was diagnosed with cancer, and she faced her disease and treatment with tremendous courage and strength, remaining positive and optimistic. The family would like to thank Dr. Rask, Dr. Stevens, Dr. Lai and the entire Oncology departments at the RVH Cancer Centre and Sunnybrook Hospital for their treatment, care and support of Cynthia over the past 10 years. They would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful care she received at Hospice Simcoe.

Guests are invited to share in celebrating Cynthia’s life on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 from 2 – 4 PM at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Cynthia’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Simcoe.
