Denene passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie on Sunday, August 13th, 2023 in her 59th year. Beloved wife of Bruce D. M. Archibald for 30 years. Loving daughter of Madeline Relf (Graham Whiteside), and stepdaughter of Barbara Jane Relf. Dear sister of Deborah Berrigan (Chris Clarke), James Relf (Toni), her twin sister, Darlene Harrison (Kirk), and sister-in-law of Tara Jessop (Frank), Mike Archibald and David Butterworth (Susan). Proud aunt of many nieces and nephews. Denene was predeceased by her father, Barry Relf, her mother and father-in-law, Honey and Willis Archibald, and her sisters-in-law Julie Butterworth and Laura Archibald.
Denene was a unique individual who cared deeply about her family, friends and neighbours. She adored her pets, both Taz and Bruce, and loved and pampered them both. She worked at Empower Simcoe for thirty years and while working, she earned her Degree in Gerontology from Laurentian University. She loved her home and decorated for each season. She enjoyed the challenge of learning new skills and became an accomplished quilter and gardener. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, scrapbooking, shopping and going on many fun day trips with her dear girlfriends. Her absence will be felt deeply by so many.
Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023 from 11 am until the time we celebrate Denene’s life at 12 pm. Reception to follow inside the lower lounge. In keeping with Denene’s wishes, cremation has taken place with an interment to occur at a future date at the Barrie Union Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all of Denene’s friends, neighbours and family members who supported Denene as she went through her health challenges of the past years. As well, the family wishes to thank the medical staff, especially Dr. J. Yuen, St. Elizabeth Health Care, Care Partners and Hospice Simcoe for their compassionate care. In appreciation, donations may be made to the following organizations in memory of Denene: Hospice Simcoe, SPCA, RVRHC (designated to Patient Care) or a charity of your choice.
