Johnston, Donald Cecil –
Passed away peacefully on December 26th, 2012 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. He is survived by his beloved children Scott Johnston, and Jennifer (Gord Stables), their mother Eleanor Johnston, and his wife Rosemary Johnston. He will never be forgotten by his grandchildren Samantha and Katie Stables, and step-children Kate Scarlett (Paige and Sarah Leger), Alison Scarlett (Henry Geno) and Emily Scarlett.
Don enjoyed an outstanding career in education, as a Ministry of Education Officer, and then as Superintendent with the York Region Board. He enjoyed many accolades during his career including sharing his knowledge and expertise with the education ministries in Australia and Japan. Don had many hobbies and past times including spending time at the Beach, playing golf and sharing stories of his time spent with the Toronto Scottish.
Don had fond memories of serving with the Toronto Scottish and in 1973 he took command of the Regiment. One of the many highlights during his tenure was the visit of the Colonel Chief, the Queen Mother, in 1974, during which she presented a new Queen's colour to he and the regiment. He would later retire as Lieutenant Colonel.
The family thanks the staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital for the superb care that he received. A celebration of Don's life will held at a later date. In his memory, donations would be welcome to the Royal Victoria Hospital and/or the Toronto Scottish Regiment. Arrangements entrusted to Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, Barrie.
