WALTER, DOREEN
It is with deepest sorrow that the family of (Verna) Doreen Walter announces her passing in her 90th year at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie (ON) on Thursday, March 11th, 2021. Devoted wife of Siegfried (predeceased), beloved mother of Tina, Janice (Lance) and Michele (Derek), adored grandmother of Meghann, Delaney, Claire, Nicholas, Emily, Dawson and Amanda, and dear sister of Marion Robillard (predeceased) and Evelyn Bagley. Doreen dedicated her life to caregiving, first as a registered nurse at Soldiers Memorial Hospital (Orillia) and Royal Victoria Hospital (Barrie), then as a devoted wife and mother, and later in life as a committed local volunteer. Whether preparing meals for homeless youth, visiting the homebound, delivering flowers to patients at RVH, or participating as a devout church member, Doreen relished the opportunity to connect with others and brought quick comfort to those she supported. Her bright smile, independent streak and quick retorts will be dearly missed by all who loved her, including family, friends, close neighbours and those who tended to her in her final year. Doreen’s shining light may now be dimmed but her family is comforted in the knowledge that her faith was strong, and she is once again reunited with her beloved Siggy.
A private family service will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, March 18th, 2021 at 1 p.m., with livestream available to the public. Interment will follow in the Spring at Midhurst Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Youth Haven Barrie and Women & Children’s Shelter Barrie. Online memories and condolences may be forwarded via www.steckleygooderham.com
