Stockdale, Dorothy (Dale)
July 3, 1924 - April 11, 2009

It is with great sorrow that se announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. During her last few weeks, Dorothy had her loving husband Douglas in the hospital bed beside her. He provided comfort and support to her, just as they had done for each other during their many years together.
Dorothy will be held forever in the hearts of her family, Douglas, her true love and husband for over 60 years; her sons Thomas (Beverley) of Barrie, Richard (Claudia) of Hamilton; her grandchildren Jason, Erin (Andrew), Liam and Arielle; and her loving nieces and nephews and their families throughout Canada and the United States. Predeceased by her brother Hiram Thompson (Elizabeth).
Dorothy was born in State College, Pa. where she attended high school and university before completing her training as a registered nurse at the Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. During W.W. II she served as a Marine Corps nurse. Throughout her youth, Dorothy spent part of every summer at Cedar Croft, the resort run by the Stockdale family in the District of Parry Sound. It was there she met the love of her life, Doug. They were married, December 28, 1948.
Dorothy centered her life around her family, making countless sacrifices to ensure that her husband, sons and grandchildren were constantly surrounded with joy and love. She was also dedicated to community and civic service. Numerous church groups; hospitals; and organizations (United Way, Red Cross, Cancer Society, Salvation Army, Scott Mission, Meals on Wheels, etc) benefited her dedicated service. As a firm believer in the democratic process, she often volunteered her time to assist in the election process, municipally; provincially; and federally.
Dorothy loved spending summers at her cottage on Ahmic Lake near Magnetawan, surrounded by her family and many friends.
Special thanks are extended to the staff of Roberta Place Retirement Home; Dr.Verhaeghe and the staff of the Royal Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care.
Friends may call at Collier Street United Church, 112 Collier Street, Barrie from 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 26 until the Memorial Service at 3:00 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to either, Collier Street United Church, or Knox Presbyterian Church, Magnetawan.

Condolences
