Lavin, Douglas James

Doug Lavin was born on February 9, 1958 in Toronto, Ontario and passed away peacefully on October 5, 2014 at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie Ontario, after battling cancer for over a year and a half. He is predeceased by his father James Lavin in 2013 and survived by his mother Helen, brother Chris (Teresa) and nephew Patrick. Doug will be missed by his many cousins and friends. Doug was a 30 year employee of Canada Post as a Letter Carrier.
Doug grew up in Weston Ontario and made his home “at the cottage” on Lake Manitouwabing for almost 30 years. He was a true outdoorsman and was happiest while dirt biking, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, riding his ATV and watching NASCAR racing on TV. He fished the Humber and Credit Rivers and he continued his lifelong love of fishing in cottage country and his recent “snow bird” winters in Florida. Doug was an active member of the Parry Sound ATV Club and has travelled south with ATV friends to the mountains of Tennessee and Kentucky for their annual ATV trip. Thanks to friends Brian and Keith who helped Doug during his battle with cancer, to cousins Rae and Kim for their support to Doug and Helen, and to the staff of Hospice Simcoe. A donation to Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario in lieu of flowers is Doug's wish. Visitation will take place at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Road, Barrie on Friday October 10, 2014 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 65 Amelia Street, Barrie on Saturday October 11, 2014 at 10:00 am. A family interment ceremony will be announced at a later date. Condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com
