Passed at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Thursday, February 20th, 2025 at the age of 80 years. Born in Manila, Philippines on December 2, 1944, Doug graduated from Wayne State University with a Masters in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Detroit. From there he received his Professional Engineer certification in Ontario and began his long career in chemical Engineering.

He was the beloved husband of Dionisia Lita, proud father of Valerie and Edrea, father-in-law to Craig Klint and Simon Nattress, and loving grandfather of Calvin Klint, Clara Klint, Maira Nattress, and George Nattress. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Anastacio Lita and Eng Lee and his siblings Luz Li, Gloria Li and Romeo Li. He was a dear brother-in-law of Pacita Lao, Yu Kim Chiong, Yu Kim Sing, Yu Hok Chi and uncle of Robbie Li (Pamela May Li), Ronald Li (Quincy Chen Li) and Beverly Li Navera (Terence Navera). Doug will be sadly missed by extended family members and many dear friends.

An avid traveller, Doug ventured to places as far as Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong, and made many friends along the way. He loved driving and made many roadtrips throughout his life, exploring both the US and Canada. Shortly after getting married in Washington State, he and his wife took a cross country trip from the west coast to Michigan. Another memorable trip he made was from Barrie to Disney World in Florida with his family (and narrowly missing Hurricane Andrew on the way home!).

Doug was a worldly, lifelong learner who took pride in his roots. His Chinese heritage, childhood in the Philippines, and time spent in Catholic schools as a young boy greatly shaped his world view. He was a hard worker, going to great lengths to care for his family both at home and abroad.

Doug passed his love of technology onto his kids, always coming home with the latest computer, software, or gadget. He was an avid photographer, never without a camera—capturing many treasured memories on his Canon AE-1, and later his digital point-and-shoots.

Doug had a kind heart and will be missed dearly.

Thank you to the team at the RVH Dialysis Clinic for their excellent care and kindness throughout his treatment.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, February 27th, 2025 from 2–5 pm. In keeping with Doug’s wishes, he will then be repatriated and laid to rest in the Philippines.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. Online condolences and memories may be shared via www.steckleygooderham.com
