Shaughnessy CD, Douglas O.
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of a wonderful man who passed peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015. In his 92nd year, Doug was born on July 10, 1924 and was raised in Midhurst, Ontario. He is predeceased by his loving wife Yvonne Perle Rowe (Bowhey), parents William and Eliza Jane (Tracy), brothers Ken and Ernest, and sister Marion (Key/Hiltz). Survived by his devoted sister Nora (Don) Sullivan, proud brother Percy (Bev), cherished children Timothy (Misty), Sandra (Ernie) Cumming, and Michael, precious grandchildren Lindsay (Findlay), Bryn (Drue), and Evan (Alyx), great-grandson Levi, many nieces and nephews, as well as many great friends and comrades. Douglas served in WWII as a member of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry who were instrumental in the liberation of Belgium and Holland. After the war, he re-enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, becoming a Canadian Peacekeeper in Egypt. He proudly served his country and Queen for 26 years. Doug was past president of the Royal Canadian Legion #147 and was instrumental in the planning and construction of the current building servicing our veterans in Barrie, Ontario. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the loving care he received at Hospice Simcoe and Owen Hill Nursing Home. His final days on earth were filled with love, laughter, and Garrett’s uplifting music. Visitation will be at the Steckley Gooderham Funeral Home on Worsley Street in Barrie on Thursday, September 10th from 7 to 9 p.m., and prior to the Legion service and funeral at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11th in the chapel. A celebration of his life will follow the service at the Barrie Legion. A private family internment and burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Simcoe would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences
