Dr. Michael Joseph Walsh passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3rd,, at the age of 76. Survived by his beloved wife Bernadette (Bun) who he loved with all his heart throughout their 51 year marriage. Loving father to Jo-Anne, Michael, Susan, Paul and David. Respected father-in-law of Doug Smith, Don Campbell and the late Heidi Walsh. Cherished grandfather to Adam and Kathleen Walsh, Sara and Krista Campbell, and Jacob Smith. Survived by his brother Dr. Kevin Walsh of St. John’s . Predeceased by his parents Sir Albert and Lady Winifred Walsh and brother Gerard. Born in Holyrood, Newfoundland, Mike moved his family from St. John’s to Barrie in 1965 and began a long and respected career as a Pathologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital, retiring just 3 years ago. Many thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital for their gentle care and compassion. The family will receive friends at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie, 721-9921, on Tuesday from 6-9 PM. A Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 65 Amelia Street, on Wednesday at 10 o’clock. Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery to follow.
