Duncan Valentine Cormick McCormick, affectionately known as “Mac,” passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.

Born on the family farm in Alexandria, Ontario, on February 14, 1939, Mac was cherished by his family from a young age. At the age of two, in 1941, his father, John Archie McCormick, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, bravely serving in Italy, France, and Germany during World War II, and returning home in 1945. During those formative years, while living with his mother and three older siblings, Mac learned the significance of strong family values—principles he would hold dear throughout his life.

Mac’s profound sense of Canadian pride was deeply rooted in the courage demonstrated by his parents during the war. He attended Ottawa University and later ventured into the uranium and gold mining industries in the Bancroft area. It was at a local dance where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Hostler, and they were married on January 20, 1961.

Mac is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Jean McCormick, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years; their sons, Kevin (Carlayne) and Greg McCormick, both of Barrie; and he took great pride in being a grandfather, lovingly known as Papa, to his three grandchildren, Natalie (Josh), Audrey, and Dan.  Several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews on the Hostler side sadly mourn this loss.

He is predeceased by his brother Wilfred (Loraine) and his sisters Frances (Pat) Plumador and Irene (Stan) Gudbranson. Uncle Corm will be missed dearly by his many nieces and nephews, who are left to treasure his memory.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Friday, April 4th, 2025 from 1 pm until the time of service in the Chapel at 2 pm. Interment to immediately follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie. Online condolences and memories may be shared via www.steckleygooderham.com
