PORTER, Eileen Marion (nee Akers)
We lost our wonderful mom August 20th, 2017, one day past her 87th birthday. Mom sang her way through life, right up to her 87th birthday on August 19th, 2017, where she sang Happy Birthday to her eldest grandson who turned 34 that very same day. Mom passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20th, 2017. Beloved wife of the late William Charles Porter (2006). Loving mother of Susan Syme (Ted), Alison Syme (Glenn), Lesley Porter, and Stephen Porter (Nancy). Predeceased by her daughter Nancie Minten-Porter. Loving grandmother to Andrew, Mathew, Marina, Leah, Brock, Brad, Michael, Amaret, Jesse, Amanda, Hailey and Hayden. Great-grandmother to Benjamin, Chloe, Raylah, Zoe, Alexandria and Logan. Eileen will be sadly missed by her brother David Akers (Carole), sisters Lynne and Kathy (Bob), and is predeceased by sisters Margaret and Dorothy. Special loving aunt to Ruth, Iris, Kathleen and Rob Allen, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Eileen was a long-time resident of Barrie and was active in many choirs, including Simcoe Songsters and Parkview Singers, enjoyed painting, personalizing crafts and, most notably, playing Scrabble with her much-loved family and friends. We are forever grateful for the friendships and love of Rev. Jay and Chris Jay, the Doige family, Dr. Beecroft and Roberta. Thanks also to Dr. Kizoff for his kind and gentle care of our mom. Friends may pay their respects at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, on Monday August 28th, 2017 from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm, when a private family service will be held. Family….. like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one. Online memories and condolences may be forwarded via www.steckleygooderham.com
