Elizabeth (Liza) Maria Tarrant (née Bezner)

After a courageous battle with cancer, Liza died the way she wanted: at home on Friday October 22nd, 2010, surrounded by family and cradled in the loving arms of her husband Chris. She was 42.

Daughter of Hart and Marilyn Bezner, Liza was born Dec 6, 1967 in Hamilton, Ontario. The first of four children, she boldly led the way for her siblings: Wayne, Timothy and Edward (Ted).

Liza created lasting friendships from her days at Harold Wagner and Lincoln Heights Public Schools and Waterloo Collegiate Institute.

Liza entered the workforce as a cashier at McDonald’s, giving it her all. She quickly rose through the ranks to become an area manager, leaving a major impact on countless individuals during these 14 years. She then moved into her new role as a Starbucks manager, a position she occupied until her physical condition deteriorated. Her generous focus on people on both sides of the counter earned her the 2008 “Manager of the Year” award for all of Canada.

When asked about the happiest period of her life, Liza, without hesitation, pointed to her marriage to Chris Tarrant whom she called her soul mate and best friend. It was a second marriage for both.

Liza will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Hart and Marilyn; brother Wayne and his wife Rachel and their daughters Carmen and Miriam; brother Timothy and his wife Laura, and their children William and Sarah; brother Edward (Ted) and his wife Lisette, and their children Alexander and Annette. To her nieces and nephews, Liza was affectionately known as ‘Auntie Lou’.

On her husband’s side by step children Daniel and Meghan; mother-in-law Marguerite Tarrant; sisters-in-law Theresa, Jennifer and Annette; brothers-in-law Tim, Todd, Alex and Terry; nieces Laura and Emma, and nephews Erik and Samuel.

Liza faced her illness much as she faced life itself: with courage, faith, joy, and serenity. Finding and giving strength through family and friends, Liza lived each day to the fullest. Her vital relationship with God shone clearly as she explained to her family, mere hours before her death, that she was at peace and would die without regrets.

Thank you to Liza’s doctors and the “Angels of Oncology” at Grand River Cancer Centre and the staff at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. A very special prayer of thanks to ‘Mona the Pharmacist’, “You are an angel!”

The family will receive friends at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie L4M 1L4 on Monday, October 25 between the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at Collier Street United Church, 112 Collier Street, Barrie L4M 1H3 at 11 AM. Cremation
Donations to Hospice Simcoe (http://www.hospicesimcoe.ca) will be welcomed in her memory.
