Walker, Esther
Esther was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on November 25, 1943. She was the youngest of 8 children born to Sigfreid and Hilya Saxberg. She has lived in Barrie since 1984. Following a long hard-fought battle with cancer Esther passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital on September 15. She leaves behind her husband and soul mate, Phil, her daughter Patricia (Jacome), her son Glen Walker, and grandchildren Alex, Angela, and Philip. She also leaves countless friends whose lives are richer as a result of knowing her. Esther was a Registered Nurse and worked at several hospitals, including RVH, throughout her career, primarily in the operating room. She was a skier and became an avid golfer and an active member of the Barrie Country Club. While she did not work directly in the business, Esther was a big part of the success of Phil Walker Ford, now known as Barrie Ford. Following Esther’s wishes, and with the services of the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, cremation will take place. Instead of a traditional funeral service there will be a Celebration of Esther’s Life at the Barrie Country Club on Wednesday, September 22, between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, to which all of her friends, golfing buddies, and associates are invited to join the family for a time of joyful remembrance, reflection, and a toast to a beautiful and courageous woman. Flowers not necessary, tears understood and laughter will be mandatory. Donations in Esther’s memory may be directed to the RVH Regional Cancer Centre.
