It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Frances Miceli, predeceased by her husband Frank Joseph Miceli (1990).

Frances will be sadly missed by her children, Joseph (Virgina), Emilia (Lawrence), Anthony.  Her grandchildren, Alanna, Desirae, Paul, Deanna (Daniel), Her great grandchildren, Ivy and Carter.

Frances Miceli (nee Papania) passed away on January 30, 2025 at the age of 95 at Mill Creek Care center surrounded by her family and Father Josi.

Frances was born on January 26, 1930 in Termini Immerse, Italy to Maria and Guiseppe Papania.  The only daughter with 3 brothers. They immigrated to Canada in 1951and lived in Toronto, Ontario.

Frances enrolled herself in night school classes to learn English and later sewing and cooking classes. Her first job was at the Bata Shoe company in Toronto.

Frances met her husband, who lived across the road and married in 1954.  They moved to Scarborough, where they raised their 3 children.  While Frances was a stay-at-home mom, she utilized her sewing skills and began a business as a seamstress from home.  Later, when the children were older to started working in factories, arranging her shifts around her children’s school schedules.

Frances worked at Alcan Aluminum Products until retirement in 1990.  Shortly after her retirement she lost her husband Frank in a tragic car accident.  Now her children were on their own raising families of their own.  Frances decided to move to Barrie to be close to her daughter.

Her grandchildren were very dear to her.  She attended their sports, school events and graduations.  Frances was a volunteer at her grandchildren’s schools and supervised on school trips.  She was “ NONNA” to all the children.

Frances was a volunteer at St John Vianney Church and a minister of the Eucharist.

She was an avid bowler and belonged to a senior league in Barrie.

Frances loved to travel.  She travelled all over Europe, Morocco, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. She also loved to join her family on winter vacations in the tropics.

Frances was exceptionally talented in crafts such as quilting, crochet, knitting and needlepoint.

As with her heritage, she always offered food.  There was always food on the table when anyone dropped in and Easter and Christmas baking was shared with all the neighbours.

In 2015 Frances moved into assisted living at Woods Park in Barrie, then moved to Mill Creek Care Center in 2019

Mill Creek was moms home away from home.  The staff were very professional, caring, loving and respectful.  We were assured that mom had the utmost respect and care at all times.  The staff were in constant contact with updates.  We are truly thankful to all the staff at Mill Creek Care Center.
