Irvine, G. Ernest
March 11, 1929 – October 7, 2013
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Ernie Irvine. Ern is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Olga (Wurm). Predeceased by his parents Alfred Irvine and Gladys Scharman he is survived by his sister Vera Stone (Ron). Devoted father of Kim, Lynn (Michael Anson-Cartwright), Jennifer (Brian Timmis) and Christopher (Trudy Jamieson). Papa was much loved and respected by his grandchildren Majella, Taylor, Conor, Brian, Kieran, Mercer, Jamieson and Jack. Purchasing a small business in Barrie in 1960 he moved his family from Port Credit and proceeded to build a successful decorating and flooring business. His accomplishments in this field were many; President of the Canadian Paint & Wallpaper Association, sitting on the advisory boards of Peerless Carpet, Canada’s Floor Connection and Carpet One Canada. Ernie was active in the community as a Shriner and as a Rotarian. He became President of the Rotary Club of Barrie followed by District Governor of Rotary in 1995. Ernie enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife Olga, golfing in Florida and fishing in remote Northern regions of Canada and other parts of the world. He was an avid bridge player, obtaining the status of Bronze Life Master in the American Control Bridge League followed by his Silver in 2011. In more recent years his focus became the ongoing accomplishments of his eight grandchildren who were a source of great interest and pride to him.
