Anderson, Rev. George F. Anderson MSM, MTh

WW II RCAF, Masonic Lodge #398 Kirkfield

March 27th, 1924-June 26th, 2009

After living life to it's fullest, George passed away peacefully at home in Innisfil, ON. surrounded by love. Dearly beloved husband of Doris (Greer) for 65 years. Loved and missed by children Lynne Welch (Gary), Neil (Roberta), Brian (Elaine), Kathy Ferguson (Bill), Paul (Debra) and Mark (Carol).Treasured Grandpa to 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Loved brother of Violet Seabright and Iris Kinsman. Dear brother-in-law to Ronald Greer (Eileen) and Ivy Eleanor Greer. Following his military service, George owned and operated a trucking firm, ""Anderson's Express"". A man of great faith, George was always dedicated and involved with his church. In the 1970's he was called to become Lay Pastor of Emmanuel United Church in Aurora, ON. and then, Executive Director of Faith At Work Canada. Later, an invitation to build homes for the poor in Haiti changed the direction of George's life. His passion for helping people and making a difference led him to travel across Canada communicating the message, ""A hand up, not a hand out"" and subsequently founding Habitat for Humanity Canada, for which he received the Governor General's Meritorious Service Medal. George was a gifted motivator and raised funds for many organizations over the years. An eternal optimist, encourager and storyteller, he will be deeply missed by extended family and many cherished friends. A special thank you to all those who prayed and/or visited George during the last months. Deep appreciation to Dr's Kenworthy, Mossman, Faris and Tripathi; the compassionate staff and caregivers of CCAC (Barrie area) and the Department of Veteran's Affairs. Visitation will be held Mon. June 29th 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Pt. Rd. at Yonge St. Barrie, ON. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday evening, June 30th, 7 pm (Masonic service at 6:30 pm.) at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Hwy #48 (east of Hwy #12) Bolsover, ON. In memory of George, please consider donations to your local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity or the CNIB.
