Sadly, on October 15th, 2023 George Yonemitsu passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie with his family at his side at the age of 89 years. Beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Tsuruda). Loving father of Dennis (Dana), Lorraine (late Wayne) and Sharon (Steve). Cherished grandfather of Branden (Casara), Brianna (Scott), Lindsay (Lee), Christine (Bryce), Jayden, Morgan, Kayleigh (Callom) & Charlotte. Treasured great grandfather to Ava, Parker & Ayla. Predeceased by his parents Fume & Isuke Yonemitsu and his siblings Isoko, Toky, Mitsy, Mitsugi, Satoshi, Fuyoko, Isao & Joe. He will be greatly missed by his brother Jim (Marg) Yonemitsu and many nieces and nephews.  

George was born in Abbotsford, BC and relocated to Toronto with his parents and siblings at a young age where later he met and married Phyllis. Soon after they relocated to Bancroft where he enjoyed his teaching career at North Hastings High School for over 30 years. He spent his leisure time golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He resided with Phyllis in the Bancroft area for 53 years & treasured the friendships of many, especially his golf buddies at Bancroft Golf Course. George and Phyllis relocated to Barrie 3 years ago to enjoy life in the city.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, October 21st, 2023 from 1-4 pm. Donations in George’s memory can be made to North Hastings High School Scholarship Fund and are greatly appreciated by the family.
