Peacefully passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie on May 7, 2016 at the age of 76. Beloved wife of Gordon for 59 years. Dear mother of Donna Hammond, Cindy (John) Hammond-Sampogna, Mike (Julia) Hammond, Margo (David) Gandy, Gary Hammond, and Sherry (Graeme) Findlay. Predeceased by son Donny Hammond. Proud nanny of 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Survived by brother Joey Longaphie and sister Janet “Ducky” MacIntyre. Sadly missed and always remembered by many other dear family members and friends. Guests will be received at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Rd., Barrie, on Wednesday May 11, 2016 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A celebration of Gert's life will take place the following day at Mapleview Community Church, 300 Mapleview Dr. W., Barrie, starting at 11am. Interment will follow the service at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Mississauga. Following the interment a reception will take place at 67 Adirondack Dr., in Maple. If desired, donations in Gert's memory may be made to the Salvation Army or War Amps of Canada and are greatly appreciated.
