Gordon passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie on Thursday, March 19th, 2026 at the age of 88. Beloved husband to Kathleen (née Flynn) for 60 years and loving father of Louise, Andrew (and wife Karen) and Neil (and wife Catherine). Proud grandfather of Ethan and Corson Taylor. Predeceased by his parents Onslow Taylor and Ruby Hipkin. Always a kind and gentle soul, Gordon made a positive impression on those he met or interacted with. He will be sadly missed by close and extended family and friends.

Gordon grew up in Toronto where he later embarked on a career in education; first as a teacher, and for most of his career as a school principal in the Catholic school system. His love for education led him to the love of his life as he met his wife Kathleen while they both taught at the same school. Gordon had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and was always happiest in a canoe, tent, or beside a campfire – cigar in hand.

With the patience of a saint, a song in his head, and a joke in his back pocket, Gordon was always ready to support and help those in need. He provided a steady and guiding hand to his children throughout their lives and was always there for both family and friends. Most recently a resident of Waterford Senior Living in Barrie, Gordon made a habit of lighting up the dining room as he chatted and joked with his friends and neighbours.

When he could, Gordon enjoyed trying to make sense of the worlds of philosophy, theology, and science always trying to understand life’s great mysteries. We hope that in his passing, he finally found the answers he was looking for.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, March 26th, 2026 from 2-4 pm. Funeral Mass will take place the following day on Friday, March 27th, 2026 at 10 am at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 65 Amelia St., Barrie. Guests are invited to remain for a reception following the Mass inside the Church hall. In keeping with Gordon’s wishes, cremation will follow. Interment will take place in the Spring or early Summer at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie.

Donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and are greatly appreciated by the family.

A Livestream of the Funeral Mass will be made available on the St. Mary's Church Facebook page.
