THOMPSON, Harold “Bruce”

Bruce passed away on the evening of Wednesday March 24, 2010, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 56 years old.
Born November 3, 1953, in Oakville, he was the son of Alvin and Helen Thompson (both deceased). Bruce studied mechanical engineering at The University of Waterloo and met his wife Kris while working as a co-op student at Atomic Energy of Canada in Mississauga. Bruce spent the majority of his career working for Molson’s Brewery until he retired in 2002 after 23 years of service. Following that, he found his perfect retirement job working for Simcoe Community Services where he provided handyman services for their many locations in Barrie and Orillia. Bruce was a man of few words, but there was always a quiet, mischievous twinkle in his eye as he approached life. He enjoyed Sunday morning golf with the guys, fishing with his Molson’s buddies, creating a piece of furniture or simply shooting the breeze in his powerhouse workshop with friends. Bruce will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife Kris, their dog Wiley, his brother Brian Thompson (Heather, Drew, Stephanie, Genevieve) and his sister Barbara van Geyn (Gerrit, Christine, Michael). He is further survived by Kris' family: grandmother Mary Batuik, mother Sylvia Firman and sister Carole Green (Mike, Rebecca). A celebration of his life will be held at the Barrie Golf and Country Club, Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Special “thank you” to the doctors, nurses and staff on 3NorthB at RVH for the exceptional care they provided and the many hugs. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Victoria Hospital Regional Cancer Care Centre would be appreciated. Condolences may be forwarded to the family through www.steckleygooderham.com.
