Harry “Chick” Wilmot Hadden passed away at The Owen Hill Nursing Home, in Barrie, Ontario on Friday October 27, 2017 in his 90th year. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marjorie Sykes. He was a wonderful father to Kim Phillips (Paul Soulsby) and Shelley Bouma (Lyle). A devoted grandpa to Jeffrey (Amanda), Shannon (Brent), Tyler and Quinn, and an adoring great-grandpa to Mara and Zoe. “Chick” Hadden was a fixture on Dunlop Street in Barrie for over 48 years, working at Twiss’ Men’s Wear for five years, and for Brass and Glenn for over forty-three years…he literally clothed generations of families within the Barrie area. Harry was extremely competitive; whether it was on the horseshoe pitch, soccer field, hockey rink, curling rink, golf course, bowling alley, or ball diamond. He was forever involved with, or participating in sports, from being President of the Barrie Colts Junior B Hockey Association to Curling in the Annual Quebec International Curling Bonspiel in Quebec City. His Thursday afternoon golf games were legendary -- if not for the round of golf, then definitely the 19th hole! Harry was also an active member of the Barrie Kinsmen Club, as well as K40, and Burton Avenue United Church. Harry will be sadly missed and always remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews as well as dear family members and good friends. Guests are invited to a casual Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 25, 2017, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm in the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home Lounge, 201 Minet’s Point Rd., Barrie, with a memorial toast and sharing of memories planned for 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leisureworld Barrie Resident Activity Fund or to the Barrie Humane Society.
