Smith, Hazel Jean

Hazel Jean Smith, in her 88th year, passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord, on Saturday April 12, 2014 at Roberta Place in Barrie Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Stanley Smith. Sister to the late Pauline McNeely (Sam) of Northern Ireland. Hazel's passing will be deeply felt by her brother Keith Smith (Joyce) in England, her sister-in-law Rose Court of Barrie, along with her many nieces and nephews and their families in Canada, the United Kingdom and France. She will be remembered as a joyful, loving, energetic lady by family and the many close friends at home and overseas. Hazel was an avid reader, world traveller and a lifetime member of the Brereton Naturalists Club. She enthusiastically shared her love of music in her younger years in England and then in Canada as a bell ringer with the Joybells Choir. Her administrative talents were used in her church and as an executive member of the Ontario Guild of English Handbell Ringers. During her lifetime, Hazel was a tireless volunteer with many organizations whose purpose was to improve the quality of life for the people of London, England and, here in Canada in Oakville and Barrie. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Hazel's life at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Homes, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday April 19th 2014. Visitation will start at 10 am followed by a memorial service and reception at 11 am. A sincere thank you is extended to the staff of Home Area 4 at Roberta Place for their kindness and care given to Hazel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Simcoe County, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
