de Jong (nee Voogd), Hillie

Passed away peacefully, on Monday, November 3, 2014 surrounded by her family, to be with her husband, the late John (Johannes Marinus) de Jong. Born in Aduard, the Netherlands, on June 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Annie Voogd. Loving wife to John de Jong, her husband of 52 years. Devoted mother to Karen de Jong-Dermann (Keith), Margaret Chapman (Robert) and Michele Kumara (Ranil). Proud Oma to Emilea Chapman. She leaves behind her seven loving siblings, Ite, Nel, Greeth, Peter and Menno in the Netherlands and Jannie and Albert in Canada, and is predeceased by her brother, Jaap. Sister-in-law to Rochus, Heleen, Henk, Siena (deceased) and Arend. An affectionate and adoring wife, and a warm and doting mother, she found much strength in her faith. She was a resident local historian, an avid reader, and talented in needlepoint. She gave back to her community through the Innisfil Chamber of Commerce, was one of the founding members of the Painswick Horticultural Society, spent many years visiting the elderly and sick in the hospital, and sang in her church choir. John and Hillie successfully operated de Jong Heating Services together for over 50 years. Visitation will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie, on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm. Funeral Service at Collier Street United Church, 112 Collier Street, Barrie, on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11 am, followed by interment at Barrie Union Cemetery and a reception at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Collier Street United Church Mission Fund. Condolences can be forwarded to www.steckleygooderham.com.
