LAMONT, James Gordon
May 15, 1934 – January 18, 2019
Born in Toronto. Raised in Barrie. Lived in many places in Ontario and died at home in Barrie holding his wife’s hand on Friday, January 18th, 2019 at the age of 84.

Survived by his loving wife, Julia Catherine (Cathy) Lamont (nee Gockel), who he met and fell in love with while on a choral tour in Prague in July of 1999. She taught music in Bangor, Maine and they commuted the 1500 km for 2 years until marrying on September 1st, 2001, followed by 17 1/2 wonderful years together.

Loving brother to B. Donald Lamont (Anne), Yvonne, and the late Doug (Sharon). Father to 2 sons and daughter Heather (Alban). Grandfather of Michael (Meagan) and Matthew (Jillian), and great grandfather of Cohen, Lucy, Anderson and Oaklen. Predeceased by his parents Blakely Lamont (9 Feb, 1907 New Lowell - 30 Sep, 1980 Barrie) and Donalda Doner. Lamont 6 Nov 1909 Stayner - 8 Mar, 1963 Barrie)

Over the course of his 34-year career with Ontario Hydro, Jim held 5 different positions and worked throughout Ontario – from Niagara Falls to James Bay.

He sang in choirs of all kinds, including church, Barbershop and community, had a passion for collecting antique cars, with special pride in his 1935 Hupmobile, and was the Treasurer of the Lincoln Owner’s Club for 10 years.

Jim and Cathy spent 10 winters at their Clearwater, FL home where they golfed and bowled and partied, and he will be sadly missed by many long-time friends from both sides of the border.

A celebration of life will be held at Collier Street United Church, 112 Collier St., Barrie on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 12 p.m. Following the service, guests are invited to remain for a reception luncheon in the church Hall. Cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. Online memories and condolences may be forwarded via www.steckleygooderham.com.
