James Edward “Jim” LAVIN
Jim Lavin was born on September 2, 1927 in Toronto Ontario and passed away peacefully on November 6, 2013, at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie Ontario at the age of 86 years after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife Helen, sons Chris (Teresa) and Doug, grandson Patrick, sister-in-law Norma Fordham and brother-in-law Carol Smith. Jim is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Regina Lavin and all of his siblings, Jack, Margret (Martin), Frank, Chuck, Paul, Rita Marie, Bill, Jean (Christie), Marianne (Smith), Gail ( Dawson) and five un-named babies. Jim will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim loved his wife Helen and his family, his extended family, all his friends and above all he loved God and his church. Jim loved life, so much so that at the cottage at the crack of dawn you could hear him shouting, “Good morning world”. Jim had a successful work life with many employers including the TTC, Gray Coach, Peerless Carbon & Ribbon, Atlas Carbon, Toronto Catholic Cemeteries, finally retiring from the Metropolitan Toronto Separate School Board. He survived colon cancer for some 25 years and led a very active and happy life with Helen in retirement. Jim was a very proud member of the Knights of Columbus and his great accomplishment of becoming Grand Knight of Humber Valley Council 3945 in 1971. In the K of C circles Jim was known as “Give me a Buck Lavin” because of his talent for selling tickets for any type of charity draw. If you are a Catholic gentleman you can commemorate Jim’s life by joining the K of C and becoming an active member. Thanks go out to nieces Rae and Kim for their support to Helen during this difficult time and the staff of Hospice Simcoe. In lieu of flowers a donation to Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario would be appreciated. Visitation: Friday November 8, 2013, 2PM to 4 PM and 7PM to 9 PM, Steckley-Gooderham 201 Minet’s Point Rd. Barrie, ON Funeral Mass: Saturday November 9, 2013, 10AM, St. Mary’s Church, 65 Amelia St, Barrie, ON L4M 1M8
