HAMILTON, Janet

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Janet Hamilton on July 31st, 2024 at the age of 90.  After a brief illness, she passed away peacefully at home, on her own terms, and with her loving family by her side.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years Andrew Hamilton (in 2007), her parents Elizabeth (nee Archibald) and James Donaldson, brothers James Donaldson Jr. (Anna), and Ronald Donaldson (Margaret), and sister Barbara Donaldson.  Loving mother of Douglas Hamilton, Alison Hamilton, and Murray Hamilton (Carol).  Cherished grandmother of Dustin (Gabriella), the late Matthew, David, Sabrina, and Alessia.  Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, and many dear friends at the IOOF Terraces at Heritage Square, Barrie.  Many knew her as ‘the lady who played the fiddle’!

Janet was born in Montrose, Scotland and worked for many years at the India Tyre rubber company in Inchinnan Scotland.  It was here where she met Andrew, later marrying and emigrating to Canada where they raised their family.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, August 8th, 2024 from 10 AM until the time we celebrate Janet’s life in the Chapel at 11 AM.  Following the service, guests are invited to remain for a reception gathering in the Lounge.  Cremation has taken place, with a private family interment to follow at a later date.

Donations in Janet’s memory may be made to the Barrie branch of the Canadian Red Cross Transportation services and are greatly appreciated by the family.
