Janet Yorke

It is with a broken heart that we share the death of Dr. Janet Gertrude Yorke at 68. February 18, 1953 - December 22, 2021. Predeceased by her parents Edith Pearl Marshall and John Alexander Barrans. She will be forever missed by her husband Michael Fairfield, daughter Risha (Rick), Grandsons Fox and Quest; her favorite Uncle Hank (Terri); her sisters Pamela (Mike), Lesley (Gary) and Marianne (Barry); her family in marriage, Lesley (Raymond), Diana (Ken), and Tony (Katie); her nieces and nephews Yolaine (Joseph), Emilie (Chris), Natalie (Kyle), Sean, Meghan, Patricia (Sid), Cameron, Alex (Chris), Eddy (Dom), Katherine, and Callum; her beloved steed Versace.

How do you announce the death of a hero, a mentor, a force of nature? I've been asking myself that question for a while now. Jan was such a big presence to so many. Her light was so bright. Her voice was so strong. She devoted her entire being to being there for the vulnerable. She was an academic who put herself on the front lines. Working as a social worker, Detox director, therapist, professor and mentor. Specializing in veterinary social work, focusing on animal/human bonding, Jan cared and advocated for animals that didn't have a voice and people who benefited from the unconditional love of an animal.

Jan's life had a ripple effect on so many others. She was a truth teller, a warrior, a teacher, a leader, and an inspiration to so many. Her absence will leave a hole for so many, but her impact will live on in all those who loved her.

Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.  If desired, donations in Janet’s memory may be made to WindReach Farm in Ashburn, Ontario.  www.windreachfarm.org
