It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Joachim (John) Walter Hoell on November 17th 2023. Joachim will forever be missed by his loving wife Judith of 37 years. Joachim was an incredible loving father to Tatjana (Lee), Nick (Natalie), Heidi and Andrew (Hailey) and an amazing Opa to Kaitlyn, Tanner, Jenny-Lynne, Jeremy and Grayden.
Joachim is pre-deceased by his parents Erna and Walter Hoell and survived by his adoring sister Susan (Daniel) Dicks. Lovingly remembered as “Uncle Gong” by his niece Krista and nephew Nicholas.
Joachim was born July 3rd 1953 in Birkenfeld Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his parents. A proud Canadian but he also held on tightly to his German roots volunteering many years for the Newmarket German Club and passing down German traditions to his kids and grandkids.
Joachim was a dedicated family man with a big heart and would give anything to those that needed it. In the words of Maya Angelou, “Family isn’t always blood, it’s the people in your life who want you in theirs: the ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.”
A celebration of Joachim’s life will be held on Saturday November 25th at the family home in Barrie. Drop in anytime between 1-4pm to offer condolences and share memories.
