Bahen, John David
With great sadness we announce the passing of John David Bahen in Barrie, Ontario, on December 1, 2013. Following years of heroic struggle against the complications of massive kidney failure, John passed peacefully in the excellent care of the staff at Barrie's Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, surrounded by family and friends. He was 56 years old. John is survived by his wife and best friend, Carole, and his beloved daughter, Caitlin. He also leaves his mother, Ardelle Bahen, nee Gordon, his sisters, Cynthia Simpson, Catherine McIntosh and Carolyn Bahen and his brothers-in-law, David Cameron, Howard Simpson and Jim McIntosh. He will be greatly missed by his nephews, Michael and Mackenzie McIntosh, his niece, Lauren McIntosh, his aunt Arlene Ritter, and cousins Gregory and Cheryl Ritter. He was predeceased by his father, Willard Bahen in 2005. John attended Thornhill secondary school and the University of Guelph where he earned a degree in Geology. He developed and ran a thriving home inspection business until his health began to limit his activities. Ever resilient, he became a fine furniture craftsman, working out of his home; his beautiful pieces are enjoyed by friends and family throughout the Barrie and Aurora area. He enjoyed the outdoors and the cottage life in Dorset and particularly in Georgian Bay. He had a zest for life and an indomitable will; he never complained and he never gave up. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the dialysis unit at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion. Visitation will take place at the Steckley- Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Rd., Barrie on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 7 to 9 PM. There will be a celebration of John's life at the National Pines Golf Club, 8165 10th Sideroad, Innisfil, Ont. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from starting at 1 pm. Donations in memory of John may be made to the dialysis unit at the Royal Victoria regional Health Centre or Lions Camp Dorset. Condolences can be forwarded to www.steckleygooderham.com
