We have lost a “Joyous” light from our lives. It is with great sadness John Samuel Denney has passed to his eternal rest on Sunday September 18,2011 at Hospice Simcoe to be with his beloved wife, Myrtle (nee Horner) (1995) in his 94th year. Son of the late Margaret and Alex Denney. Proud father of Joyce Hardy and husband Bob of Pickering, Ronald Denney and wife Jan of Pickering, Doreen Pattison and husband Ken of Toronto, John Denney of Richmond Hill and Janice Weichel of Aurora. Cherished grandfather to Donna Samis and husband Brian, Bob Hardy Jr. and wife Angie, Jennifer and Ryan Denney, Tracy and Lori Pattison, Justin, Tyler and Thomas Denney and Kelly and Kortney Weichel. Loving great-grandfather to Ryan and Evan Samis, Dean Lamoureux and Melissa Hardy. Dear brother to Cecil Denney of Thornton, and the late Marguerite Clark, Edward Denney, Gladys Platt, Lottie Ellis, David Denney, Annie McFadden, Joseph Henry (who passed away in infancy) Luella MacDonald, Mason Denney and William Denney. John will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Shelley Makela for being his “guardian angel”, looking after his home and driving him to his many errands. Also, thank you to Mary and Jack Hirons for their kind words of wisdom. John will be missed by his many friends in the Grace United Church, Pickering Rod & Gun Club, The Veterans’ Club of Barrie, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 147, Sno-Voyageur Snowmobile Club ,Veterans Affairs Canada, the Doucetts – his ”Muskoka” family, and Bill Ford, George Stevens and Ed O’Reilly – his loyal friends. Friends and relatives are welcome to share stories and memories with John’s family from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday September 22, 2011 at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home (201 Minet’s Point Rd at Hwy 11) Barrie. Services will be held at Grace United Church, 350 Grove Street, Barrie, Ontario on Friday September 23, 2011 at 11:00. Interment Erskine Cemetery, Pickering. Special thanks to the staff at Hospice Simcoe and the Royal Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care.
