SMITH, John

Passed peacefully at his home in Barrie with his family by his side on April 6th, 2022 at the age of 80.  Beloved husband and best friend of Isabel for 58 years.  Honoured father of Beverley, Cynthia, and John.  Will be forever loved and sadly missed by all his family.

John was a retired veteran.  He was a Corporal with the Royal Canadian Engineers.  After leaving the military, he worked for several organizations.  Two of his proudest were working as an usher at the original Montreal Forum where he was able to watch his favorite hockey team -- the Montreal Canadiens -- and second was Air Canada where he was an Airframe technician.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, on Saturday, April 9th, 2022 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 P.M., with service to be held in the Chapel on Sunday, April 10th at 1 P.M., as well as via livestream.  Following the service, guests are invited to remain for a reception in the Lounge.

If desired, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the RVH Foundation and are greatly appreciated by the family.

The moment that you died, my heart was torn in two,

one side filled with heartache, the other died with you.

Remembering you will be easy, I’ll do it every day,

but missing you is a heartache that will never go away.

I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain,

until the joyous day arrives, that we will meet again.

- Your loving wife, Isabel Anne.

He never looked for praise, he was never one to boast.

He went on quietly working for the ones he loved the most.

His dreams were seldom spoken, his wants were but a few,

and his worries went unspoken, he simply worked them through.

He was there… a firm foundation through all our storms of life

A solid hand to hold on to in times of stress and strife.

A steady guide and teacher we turned to in good times and in bad,

one of our greatest blessings is the man we called our Dad.

Condolences
