RUSSELL, Karina “Kori” Dorthea

It is with great sadness to announce that Kori Russell passed-away in her home at the young age of 42, on January 23, 2021.

Kori was a mother, partner, aunt to friend’s children and a friend to all.
Much loved mother to Rylee Russell, partner to Lou Gollious. She will be fondly remembered by her best friends who were like family, their families as well as her extended family members.

Kori was predeceased by her grandpa, James Keith Russell who passed away in 2001. She has been reunited with her grandpa with whom raised her, and she loved so very much. She will be having a laugh, a chat and hug with many before her. She was proud of the tattoo on her back shoulder, which read “Grandpa’s little devil”

Kori was a beautiful soul, with a devilish grin. Her strong personality was too large to measure and her identity too unique to classify. You can’t help but hear her voice ordering you to move forward and be a better person. Kori was one of the toughest women who brought life where there was darkness, she had a gentleness through the roughness, she was witty and fun and had that spark, the kind that brought people together to connect and have a laugh. She struggled herself but always had so much time to listen to others and be there for someone. Her heart was too big to contain. She lived by building each other up and believed in standing up and helping others in need and Kori reminded people to help that needed to be reminded. She believed in “paying it forward” and she helped as many people as she could in life.

She was one of a kind and irreplaceable. She has left a large hole in people’s hearts and lives and was one of a kind but most of all, irreplaceable. She was a strong advocate and lovingly referred to by friends in her 420 online community as the “Canadian Canna Queen”. She was a warrior, a sweet friend, and a fierce and loving Mama Bear. It was an honor to know her.

A Celebration of Life will be postponed to a later date when friends can safely gather.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trauma Practice for Healthy Communities and are greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com
