Kevin James Wozniak

May 30, 1973 – October 3, 2023

Passed peacefully surrounded by his family at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023 at the age of 50 years. Beloved husband of Sarah. Much loved son of Edward and Arleen Wozniak and son-in-law of Brian and Joyce Milton. Dear brother of Randy (Joanne) and Linda and predeceased by his infant sister Tracey, Kevin will be missed by his brother-in-law Joe; sister-in-law Kathryn (Ricky) and their children Emily and Joel; and brother-in-law Richard (Joanne) and children Hannah, Sophie and Oliver. Proud uncle of Steve, Jack, Traci (Brandon) and Marisa, Kevin leaves his adored fur baby Charlie but is now reunited with his beloved pup Primeau.

Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Kevin had a deep love for all things outdoors. Never happier than when he was outside (preferably in cool temperatures!), Kevin’s friends and family have many great memories of him made on camping, hunting and fishing trips as well as times spent snowmobiling, skating and playing hockey.

In recent years, Kevin’s passion for woodworking expanded to include sawmilling and he spent many hours cutting and milling logs and making furniture and other items for family and friends in the country “forever home” he shared with Sarah and Charlie.

In his professional life, Kevin’s colleagues remember him as someone who could always be relied on not only to excel in his role but also to bring his trademark sense of humour and positive attitude into every workday. Whether he was trading one-liners from favourite movies with co-workers, quoting Family Guy or The Simpsons, or participating in the daily euchre game over the lunch hour, Kevin added an irreplaceable element of fun and laughter that will be greatly missed.

To those who knew and loved him, Kevin will be forever remembered as the man with the huge heart and the easy smile. The man who inspired fun and laughter at every gathering and over every interaction via text or email. The diehard Flyers fan with a love of music and animals who was always the first to step up to help someone in need. Throughout his cancer journey, Kevin’s determination to rise above every challenge with grit and grace; his ability to find something good in every day and the way he lived each day as his authentic self, inspired those around him and earned him much love and respect from those who cared for him along the way.

Kevin’s family would like to thank the PSW team from CarePartners; the nursing team from Bayshore and especially Dr. Jennifer McNaughton and the phenomenal staff team at Hospice Simcoe for their care and compassion for Kevin. Each one of you made a difference to his journey and we are so grateful for you all.

Visitation will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, October 12th, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will take place the following day on Friday, October 13th, 2023 inside the Chapel at 2pm. Kevin was an avid Philadelphia Flyers fan so in honour of his 40+ year commitment to his team, attendees are encouraged to wear Flyers colours, jerseys etc. (especially if you’re a Leafs fan!) to the service.

In keeping with Kevin’s wishes, cremation will follow. A reception will occur immediately following the Service inside the lower lounge. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kevin’s memory may be made to Hospice Simcoe, the Slay Society (supporting families of patients with glioblastoma) or the SPCA and are greatly appreciated by the family.

A separate memorial fund to support the work of the Sheila Singh Lab at McMaster University in their research into Glioblastoma is also being established in Kevin’s honour: if you would like to donate, please visit Kevin's donation page here.
