Lan Huynh lived a joyful life, watching many of her dreams come to fruition. In 1979, she and her husband left Vietnam with their family for a better life. After spending a year in Malaysia, they were fortunate enough to be connected with St. Mary’s Church and the Gilbride family, who supported their transition to their new home in Barrie. Lan was a talented seamstress, working for many years at Burnetts and Struth Scottish Regalia, and she also created skating outfits for her grandchildren. She was always generous and made sure friends and family visiting were satisfied with her wonderful cooking. Family connections were of utmost importance to her; she frequently had video calls with relatives around the world and cherished photographs of her grandchildren and their children.
Lan was predeceased by her husband Luong and her daughter Duong Ma (Thanh Hua). Among her loving family are her sons, Ba Ma (Pham Tieu) and Khai Ma (Heather), as well as her grandchildren, Phú Hua (Katherine), Mike Hua (Audrianna), Michelle Roy (Stephen), and Peter Ma. The lights of her life were her great-grandchildren; Khai, Jasmine, Hailey, Sunny, and Violet.
In her final years, Lan resided at Simcoe Terrace, where she enjoyed dining with her table mates. These ladies embraced Lan and made sure she attended meals and checked in on her regularly.
