Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, April 4 2022 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Glenn Appleby (1989) for over 37 years. Loving mother of Laurie, Ted (Cathie), Neil, Steve and Carolyn (Brent). Cherished grandmother of Meaghan (Matt), Brett (Gina), Jordan (Allyson), Kevan (Misty) and Daisy (Kat), Brittany, Nicole and great Grandmother of Elsa, Sadie, Stewart, Ashley, Henry and Leo. Caring sister of Doris. Leona will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Leona is predeceased by her parents Gladys and Nelson Pickell. Leona was a jack of all trades in life. A few of her occupations would be a farm wife, clerk, Red Cross home support worker, bus driver. She graduated as an Early Childhood Educator In her late 50’s and retired as a teacher’s assistant. Leona’s love for gardening was passed onto her children and enjoyed at Collier Street United Church. At the age of 86 she authored a book highlighting the windows at Collier Street United Church. Leona was a very active member of the community and kept herself busy; whenever she had a min to spare, she loved volunteering at RVH for over 15 years. Family and friends are invited to Collier Street United Church, 112 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario; on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 12 (noon) till the service time that will be held the same day at 1 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, donations to the R.V.H Foundation or  the Collier gardens would be gratefully appreciated by Leona’s family.
