With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the peaceful passing at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre of our beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. Leo peacefully passed on Monday, March 16th, 2026 in his 89th year.
Leo was the beloved husband of the late Johanna “Ann” (2024) of 61 years. Loving father of Teresa (Joe) and John. Dear brother of the late John Gubbels (Ida), the late Peter Gubbels (Isabelle), Betty Deschamps (Don), the late Nellie Van Den Hoogen (Bill), Frank Gubbels (Lisette), the late Louise Deschamps (Roger), Joe Gubbels and Hurb Gubbels (Bonnie). Predeceased by his parents John and Deanna. Will be missed by extended family members and dear friends.
Funeral Mass will take place at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 65 Amelia St., Barrie on Saturday, March 21st, 2026 at 10 am. Interment to immediately follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie. Reception to take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie following the interment. Guests who do not wish to attend the interment, please make your way directly to the Funeral Home following the Mass and await the families return. The family would like to take this opportunity to pass along their thanks to Dr. Lai, Nurse Coleen and Leo's caregiver and dearest friend, Koral.
