BAKER, Leonia Maria

November 16, 1922 – September 10, 2010

NINA BAKER (nee Steurs), aged 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter, Lorrie, on Friday, September 10, 2010. Nina was born in Wilryk, Antwerp, Belgium and married Morley(Mike) Baker there. She came to Canada as a war bride and her and Mike settled in Barrie, Ont. Nina was a seamstress by trade, sewing for her family & many people in Barrie. She worked at Lakeview Dairy, Janes Stationary, & for 15 years at Sears. She also loved her regular card games with her friends. Later in life Nina took up knitting and crocheting. She created many baby afghans for Blessed Mother Teresa’s orphans & the RVH Auxiliary. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren & great grandchildren. Cherished mother of John (& Dianne), Jim (& Kathy), Lorrie (& Bill) French & Michael. She will be sadly missed & fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Chad, Ben, Leslie, Treena, Jon, Nikki, Angela, Dan, Amanda & Andrew, and her great grandchildren, Calvin, Nigel, Madison, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Matthew, Megan, Isaiah, Mary, Max, Jon, Mark, Tattiana, Devon, Jace, Emma, Daniel & Abigail. Special Thanks to Ludi Cole, nurse and friend & and to the Bayshore Nurses, to the dedicated and compassionate PSW’s of the Red Cross, to Mom’s craft buddy, Rene, from Hospice Simcoe and to the attentive and caring, Dr. Beecroft. Friends will be received at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, on Monday, September 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Parish, 13 Baldwin Lane, on Tuesday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow and private family interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetary, Phelpston, Ont. at a later date.
