Louise passed away on November 10, 2024 with her family and friends close by at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie as a result of an aggressive brain tumour. She was born March 3, 1943 in Peterborough, Ontario, to Frank and Peggy Pope. A graduate of Queen’s University and the University of Toronto, she spent many years as a social worker in a variety of communities in Ontario and the UK. A dedicated volunteer, she sought to improve access to services for all. She was a founder of Third Age Barrie and was passionate about community building.
Louise is survived by her sister Sue McNally (Mike), and her nieces and nephew Beth (Derek), Maggie (Dan) and Colin (Linda). She was a great Great-Aunt to Bennett, Reid, Max, Finn and Audrey. She will be missed by her many friends and colleagues who she knew from school, work, and volunteering. A special thank you to Sandy and Louise’s extended circle of friends for their care and help in the past few months. Thank you also to the caring staff at RVH who supported Louise through the end of her life.
A good day was at the cottage, enjoying the hummingbirds, the lake and visits with friends. Please remember her by phoning a friend to catch up.
Donations in honour of Louise may be made to Grandmothers to Grandmothers for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Independent Living Services Simcoe County, or Barrie Concert Association.
