DEMAL, Lynn – Lynn died peacefully on December 5, 2016, at 80 years young, after a
courageous battle with cancer. Lynn was born October 22, 1936, in Toronto, Ontario,
daughter of Thomas Henry (Harry) Laceby and Ethel Mary Upwood, and youngest of five
siblings – Donald, Jean, Robert (Bob) and Audrey.
After high school, Lynn married her husband of 25 years, Kenneth Demal. Ken’s Ontario
Hydro career took them across Ontario – from Mitchell and their first borne Leslie Ann, to
Cobourg and their second Tracy Lynn, northward to Kapuskasing and Sudbury, and then
back to sunny south, Cayuga. Once the girls started school, Lynn sought paid work
outside home in progressively responsible finance and administration jobs. By early
1980s, Lynn joined Baxter Inc. Alliston in inventory and distribution of hospital supplies
nation-wide, retiring from Baxter Mississauga 25 years later.
Lynn was always up for a social gathering with colleagues, family and friends - family
reunions, darts at the Legion, curling at the rink or just a night out on the town. Across
the miles, Lynn made many lifelong friends including three very special women -
Rosemary Delany, Irene (McLaren) Cooke, and Pat Crapper – she always treasured
hearing their news and sharing her stories and, most of all, their companionship through
the years.
Lynn loved the summers and growing her annual flower gardens but travelling became
her real passion. She started with road trips to visit her older siblings, cousins and their
families across Ontario and Michigan. Then, exploring new Ontario destinations, and
venturing to Minnesota and eastern Canada became the mainstay of summertime trips
with the girls. And later, in the company and care of good friends and family, Lynn
extended west to British Columbia, south to California and the warm Caribbean breezes,
and over the pond to Ireland, Portugal and Spain. Not bad.
Lynn is predeceased by her parents, her sister Jean Campbell, sister and brother-in- law
Audrey and Phil Romat, her brother Donald, her brother and sister-in- law Robert and
Jean (Campbell), and her cousins Claire Jean (Swallow) and Jim Chanske, and Mary
Lou (Swallow) Shalhoub. Lynn leaves behind her daughters Leslie and Tracy, her
brother-in- law Dawson Campbell, her cousins Anthony Shalhoub and Eva (French)
Doucet, and her many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends across Canada
and United States.
The family wishes to thank staff at Mississauga’s Credit Valley Hospital and Community
Care Access Centre, and Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital and Bayshore Home Health;
the family would also like to express their immense appreciation and gratitude to Pat
Crapper for her compassionate and unwavering care and support to Lynn throughout. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Memories and
condolences maybe forwarded to the family at www.steckleygooderham.com
